We are seeking an experienced Luthier or Instrument Technician to join our restoration and production team. In this full-time, hands-on role, you will inspect, repair, and set up orchestral string instruments to ensure they meet our high standards for craftsmanship and sound quality. You will be part of a collaborative workshop team and contribute directly to the quality of instruments delivered to our customers.
Responsibilities
Inspect and set up violins, violas, cellos, and basses to meet quality and tonal standards.
Diagnose and repair a wide range of issues, including structural, mechanical, and cosmetic concerns.
Adjust and modify sound posts, perform peg and nut repairs, and handle other fine-tuning needs.
Maintain accurate documentation of completed work and any product concerns
Evaluate and prepare new inventory for sale or rental
Collaborate with the restoration and production teams to meet production timelines
Keep tools in good working condition and maintain a clean, organized bench space
Participate in ongoing training and stay current with evolving industry techniques
Qualifications
Experience in orchestral string instrument setup, repair, or luthiery
Familiarity with luthiery techniques and proficient use of hand tools
Strong attention to detail and a deep commitment to craftsmanship
Manual dexterity and the ability to perform repetitive handwork safely and efficiently
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and remain at a bench for extended periods
High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of luthiery school or equivalent hands-on experience is preferred.
Musical background or string instrument performance experience is a plus
Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a team-oriented mindset
