Luthier | String Instrument Repair Specialist |  Orchestral Instrument Technician

About the Role 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on String Instrument Technician to join our collaborative workshop environment. This role focuses on the repair, setup, and restoration of orchestral string instruments, including violins, violas, cellos, and basses. Whether you are early in your career or already experienced, this position offers meaningful work with ample room for growth.

Responsibilities 
 

  • Inspect and diagnose structural, mechanical, and cosmetic issues

  • Perform instrument setup, including adjustments to soundposts, bridges, pegs, and tailpieces

  • String, tune, clean, and polish instruments to meet high-quality standards

  • Document repair and maintenance work accurately

  • Maintain a clean and organized bench and tool area

  • Work closely with a team to meet production and quality goals

  • Participate in ongoing training to develop and refine technical skills


Required Qualifications

  • Comfortable using hand tools for detailed and repetitive tasks

  • Basic woodworking knowledge and experience in a shop environment

  • Strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and pride in craftsmanship

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and remain focused during extended bench work

  • Willingness to learn, take feedback, and support team success

     

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with instrument repair or setup

  • Formal training in luthiery or a related craft

  • Background in music, especially with violin-family instruments

  • Experience in production, rental, or music retail settings
